Agreement for a further six months from the 31st December, which shows that we are making every effort, despite our difficulties, to meet China's requirements under the agreement. You will, however, realise that in present circumstances we could give no undertaking that further financial assistance will be forthcoming either by way of loan or fresh credits.

7. We cannot of course answer for the French Government, but we have been given to understand that they have not changed their policy towards China although the international situation compels them to be cautious vis-à-vis Japan.
